Things you should know! Before getting vaccinated against cervical cancer

Cervical cancer prevention vaccine (HPV Vaccine)It is a vaccine that protects against infection with HPV (Human Papilloma Virus), which is a major cause of cervical cancer. Because HPV infection causes cervical cells to become chronically inflamed and transform into cancer cells.

Currently, there are several vaccines available in Thailand.3 typesAs follows:

  • The vaccine protects against two strains, 16 and 18, that cause cervical cancer.
  • The vaccine protects against four strains: strains 16 and 18, which cause cervical cancer, and strains 6 and 11, which cause genital warts.​
  • The vaccine protects against 9 strains (strains 16, 18, 9, 11, 31, 33, 45, 52, and 58). It is an inactivated vaccine developed from 4 strains of HPV vaccine. It can prevent diseases such as cervical cancer. Vulvar cancer Vaginal cancer Anal cancer Oral and throat cancer and genital warts

Vaccination must be administered a total of 3 times.
  • 1st time, injection on the designated day.
  • The second injection is given 1-2 months after the first injection.
  • 3rd time injection 6 months after the first dose.

*In girls If the first dose is given before the age of 15 years, the vaccine can be given only 2 times, 6 - 12 months apart.​

Advantages of the cervical cancer vaccine (HPV Vaccine)​
  • Highly effective in protecting against the HPV virus.
  • Side effects are minimal. You may have pain, swelling, and a low fever, but they will go away on their own.
  • Can be injected at the same time as cervical cancer screening (Thin Prep).
  • Protects against HPV virus for both females and males.
  • The HPV virus is also a cause of cervical cancer. Also includes vaginal cancer. Vulvar cancer and genital warts as well
