Shades of Joy: The Art of Living in Balance

In today's fast-paced, high-pressure society, many people face accumulated stress, burnout, and rising emotional fatigue that affect their health in the long term. As a result, the concept of health has broadened — no longer limited to the absence of physical disease, but encompassing mental and emotional well-being and overall quality of life.

On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of Global Wellness Day, which falls on 13 June 2026, the celebration is presented under the theme #JoyMagenta — placing "joy" (Joy) at the heart of holistic health while fostering balance between living and self-care.

This idea also highlights that joy is not merely a fleeting emotional state, but an "intentional practice" (Intentional Practice) that plays a vital role in physical well-being, mental well-being, and the connection between people — expressed through four key pillars:

Joy in Gratitude

Gratitude and appreciation are the foundation of lasting joy. They help us recognise the value of what we have rather than dwelling on what is missing, turning every moment into an opportunity to delight in the good things around us — health, friendship, nature, or love. Practising gratitude therefore fosters inner calm, strengthens emotional resilience, and opens us to the positive energy found in life's simplest moments.

Joy through Connection

Relationships are a fundamental factor in good well-being. Whether sharing a meal, having a conversation, or doing activities together, such connections create meaning and purpose in life while nurturing kindness and compassion — leading to the joy that arises from connection with one another.

Joy in Movement

Moving the body is another way of expressing joy — walking, dancing, yoga, stretching, or mindful exercise. These help relieve tension, restore balance to both body and mind, build vitality, and uplift the spirit.

Joy through Creativity

Creating through activities such as art, music, cooking, writing, or trying new things can lead to a state of "Flow" — a sustained, absorbed focus that nurtures inspiration, releases negative emotions, and builds confidence, reflecting a joy that is created and passed on to others.

Joy is an essential element of holistic well-being, intertwined with both physical and mental health, and one that can be cultivated continuously — through shifting perspective, social interaction, physical movement, and creative expression. Bringing these elements into daily life not only reduces stress and strengthens emotional resilience, but also promotes health and helps build a caring, sustainable society for the long term.

“Joy is more than happiness — it’s harmony within”
