Our Story

As our health risks have changed, so should our healthcare.

100 years ago, the leading causes of death in Europe and North America were pneumonia and influenza, tuberculosis and diarrheal diseases. Infectious diseases were the dominant causes of death and disability, and medical institutions worldwide were designed to combat the impact of these deadly diseases.

Over the past century we have seen breakthroughs in the diagnosis and treatment of infectious disease, leading to effective treatments and, in some cases, even cures. This in turn has made way for a new leading health risks: non-communicable diseases such as heart disease, stroke and cancer.

The BDMS Wellness Clinic is part of the Bangkok Dusit Medical Services (BDMS) network, Thailand’s largest operator of private hospitals with 47 facilities across Thailand and in Cambodia.

Dedicated to providing advanced healthcare to patients all around the globe, BDMS has earned a reputation for outstanding healthcare complimented with its renowned Thai hospitality. But as the needs of the patients have begun to shift to diseases related to diet and lifestyle factors, BDMS sought a new approach to healthcare through the science of prevention.

Dinosaurs of Siam

Dr. Prasert Prasarttong-Osoth, Founder of Bangkok Dusit Medical Services, is a passionate art and antiques collector. His collections are congregated in 4 different museums in the Sukhothai province including the Chinese museum, the Sukhothai, the Rattanakosin and the Fossil museum.

A portion of dinosaur skeleton replicas the museum in Sukhothai is now being exhibited at the BDMS Wellness Clinic in the heart of Bangkok. With the intention that the general public can learn more about these dinosaurs and to be able to get close and personal with the dinosaur replicas. These replicas are of dinosaurs the early to the mid-Cretaceous period including the 3 species in which their fossils were firstly discovered in Thailand.

Phuwiangosaurus sirindhornae, or “Long-necked Giant Siam,” is the life-sized replica found at the entrance of BDMS Wellness Clinic and on the second floor. This plant-eating dinosaur roamed the Isaan or Northeastern region of Thailand approximately 130 million years ago. When standing, the Phuwiangosaurus could swing its long neck to reach leaves in tall trees. When eating, it would swallow gravel to grind food in its stomach, much like modern seed-eating birds.

Siamosaurus suteethorni, or “Professional Fish Hunter,” can be found on the first floor in the Plaza Zone. This agile dinosaur was equipped with sharp cone-shaped teeth and a long jaw similar to that of crocodiles. Siamosaurus was a semi-aquatic creature that lived in swamps and hunted fish. The tall spine on its back is believed to help regulate its body temperature.

Psittacosaurus sattayaraki, “Parrot-Beaked Dinosaur”, has two replicas located in the garden on the second floor. These smaller-sized dinosaurs were herbivores with parrot-like beaks and roamed Thailand approximately 100 million years ago.
